Toujours dans la lignée des super-héros, mais dans un format plus classique qu’est le roman, Kelly Thompson, la détentrice de l’excellent blog 1979semifinalist, se lance enfin dans un projet perso avec The Girl Who Would Be King ! L’histoire est centrée sur deux adolescentes, Bonnie Braverman et Lola LeFever, dont tout pourrait les différencier autant dans leur manière de percevoir le monde, de le comprendre, d’agir que leur vécu. Cependant, une chose les unit : elles possèdent toutes deux des pouvoirs extraordinaires. L’histoire en elle-même est classique avec le « bien » (Bonnie Braverman) qui combat le « mal » (Lola LeFever). Cependant, connaissant l’auteure, on peut être sûr qu’elle arrivera à nous mettre en haleine, nous époustoufler, nous émouvoir, tout en traçant un portrait de la femme différent de celui présent dans les comics avec des super-héroïnes très souvent mal léchées par une équipe créative fortement masculine.

Mis en ligne sur le fameux Kickstater, Kelly Thompson a déjà récolé 4,508$, soit un peu plus de la moitié des fonds attendus (8,000$). Le bouquin devrait contenir approximativement 375 pages et de très bons artistes ont déjà donner leur part de contribution par le biais d’illustrations. Stéaphanie Hans, avec qui l’auteure avait déjà travailler durant le projet Womanthology, a réalisé la couverture de The Girl Who Would Be King et le moins que l’on puisse dire, c’est que c’est beau (voir plus haut). Si le projet aboutit, on sait au moins que la qualité sera au rendez-vous.
